Alan Hull invented the Hull Moving Average (Hull MA) indicator to improve traditional moving averages' performance and increase trend identification speed and accuracy. This valuable tool in the MetaTrader 5 trading platform helps traders clearly identify short-term and mid-term trends.

This indicator allows traders to choose optimized entry (Entry) and exit (Exit) points for their trades.

Hull Moving Average in an Uptrend

The indicator shows how the uptrend begins in the 1-hour price chart of Silver against the US Dollar (XAG/USD). The first signal for entering a buy (Buy) trade is generated when the price crosses from below to above the Hull Moving Average line.

Additionally, if the moving average slows upward with a steep angle, it indicates an increase in buyer strength and the likelihood of the uptrend continuing.

Hull Moving Average in a Downtrend

According to the 1-hour price chart of Ethereum (ETH), the first sign of a downtrend in the Hull Moving Average indicator occurs when the price crosses from above to below the moving average line.

Moreover, if the moving average slopes steeply downward, it indicates an increase in selling pressure (Sell) and the potential continuation of the downtrend.

This key feature addresses the slow and lagging performance of traditional moving averages. The indicator only focuses on recent market changes and shows the current trend status, making it suitable for lower timeframes.
